From fundraising for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to participating in the MU Homecoming blood drive, Tri Delta has helped serve its members, campus and community in a variety of ways throughout its 104 years of existence on campus. With the help of one Tri Delta member, their latest pillar of service now includes assisting in environmental sustainability.

When stepping back a little, we can notice each building we come into contact with somehow plays a part in altering our planet and those who inhabit it. For example, LED bulbs in lighting fixtures are more energy efficient compared to halogen lighting. Windows within a classroom setting can improve test scores. ADA accessibility within buildings allow equal access for all.

From water conservation practices to monitoring bluebird fledglings, A.L. Gustin Golf Course has made a significant impact on the environment and the Columbia community as a whole. To honor the team’s hard work and dedication the City of Columbia awarded A.L. Gustin Golf Course with the 2019 Mayor’s Climate Protection Agreement Award on March 14, 2019.

What do Girl Scouts, Royal Rangers and aluminum cans have in common? One passionate MU staff member who has gone on to raise funds for Mid-Missouri youth by recycling aluminum cans. MU groundskeeper, Herman Klippel started fundraising through recycling in 2017, when his granddaughter’s Girl Scouts troop in Ashland, Missouri, needed assistance with picking up and hauling soda cans from their local recycling center to companies such as Advantage Metals who pay for the aluminum.
